Embryo Gene Mapping Test Unveiled
News Posted by daveb on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 (16:00:02) (654 reads)

A gene mapping test could tell parents-to-be if embryos are affected by almost any inherited disease, UK scientists have claimed.

The team from London's Bridge Centre say the £1,500 test could detect any of the 15,000 inherited diseases in weeks.

Current tests are either focused on a specific gene mutation, or take a lot longer to give results.

But other experts warned the fertility regulator would have to ensure there were strict limits on the test's use.

Dr Mark Hamilton, chairman of the British Fertility Society, said: "The effectiveness and efficiency of the procedure is quite exciting, and the fact it's quicker means it could be helpful to couples at risk of inherited diseases - and that in itself is significant.

"We can currently test for several hundred conditions, but the claim is that the spectrum of conditions which could be screened for is enormous

"But obviously, the ethical question is, if you can screen for anything, where do you draw the line?"

News Posted by Jay-lo on Saturday, April 12, 2008 (16:27:57) (812 reads)

Hi, thought i'd be one of the first to join this new website and introduce you to our daughter Jasmine. She was born on Sunday the 6th April at 12.52am. We had a home birth and everything was fantasic. Jasmine is daughter to Rich and Terry and sister to Ben aged 10 and Charlotte aged 7. She is a total angel and is sleeping and feeding well. Although we've had a couple of bad nights, she is really content and happy. This i am putting down to stress free, calm and easy home birth. If you're thinking of a home birth.....DO IT!!!!!!!!. She is being breastfed and this of course means i have relented and allowed her to sleep in our bed. Naughty but nice!!!! More news soon as little one is rooting for a feed!
We are very much looking forward to sharing our daughters life, likes, dislikes, achievements and short falls with you.
