Hi all
Little Freya is 9 weeks old now and is a lovely content and beautiful baby Very Happy , BUT since she was born I have been having trouble feeding her she is on and off all the time and just not latching on properly, I have kept working hard with her so that she continues to put on weight (10oz) this week but instead of trying to help me the health visitors have told me to put her on a bottle!! Evil or Very Mad

I had a grumpy moment and refused to put her on a bottle and a week ago I went to a local sure start center to see if they would help, cut a long story short a lovely lady called Nita who is a feeding buddy came round today and spotted all the tell tail signs of tongue tie right away, then after 2 hours of trying to over come the issue with latching she came with me to see a health visitor who has confirmed that little Freya had the condition and told me to see a doctor,

I am putting this on here to see if anyone else has had a baby that has suffered with tongue tie and been able to overcome it with out surgery and also to vent over the incompetance of both the midwife and numerous health visitors that I asked to help me!! Evil or Very Mad I have struggled for 9 weeks and become very sore when there is apparently some simple exersises that could help, any other advice would be gratefully recieved as I do not wat to give up on her just yet Wink

why are you not au fait with it then Dave lol, you could always grow some man boobs if you are feeling left out pmsl

Well in short tongue tie is where the little bit of skin that is under the tongue is either too tight or is attached further up the tongue preventing the tongue to effectivly move to the roof of the mouth and there for latching on and staying on can be a problem also she can't hold a dummy in her mouth if she is moved for the same reason, in bad cases it can also affect speech later on, not all babies that have tongue tie have problems feeding but some do like mine.

I have an apppointment with the doctor on wed to see if it is bad enough to be cut and allow free movement.

I am reserching some exercises that I can do to help and having it cut according to my reserch should solve the problem right away, they snip it then get you to feed right away with instant results. We shall see

but other than making feeding hard work it causes no pain or anything so all is fine

Will keep you informed to any progress.
