The Controlled crying method for babies is one of the hot potatoes of sleep problems in babies.
The reason for this is that it involves a degree of what some mothers might see as separation from their babies, but it is simply a means to tackle sleep problems in babies which teaches the babies that they cannot have constant attention from their mothers (and fathers).
Controlled Crying is not suitable for babies under 6 months of age as they may have legitimate issues that require resolution
controlled crying can help with situations where your baby wakes not because of a want but because of a need instead.
The one recommendation mylittlecutey would give is that before attempting controlled crying method that you should ensure you have the strength of conviction to carry on through as it is a very emotionally draining experience and that by starting the controlled crying process but then abandoning it partway through you are actually training your baby to cry harder and longer for your attention.
listening to your own baby cry can be extremely distressing and upsetting and so the controlled crying method may not suit everyone
When your baby cries during the night, firstly listen hard to ensure it is a comfort cry and not a distressed cry from pain or similar. If it a comfort cry then wait for 2 minutes before doing anything, then go to them and soothe with a smooth of the back. Don't make any eye contact and maintain the rooms darkness throughout. Once they have calmed down leave the room.
If they cry again then repeat the process but this time double the waiting time before entering the room. Every time they cry after this double the waiting period time.
Controlled crying method should produce results within a few nights and in the majority of cases should have proved effective within 1 week.
